Reinforcements for forming dies are required in order to absorb the high radial loads in the dies which occur during the production of formed or forged parts. Without reinforcements, the forming tools would fail immediately. For this purpose, STRECON A/S from Sonderborg, Denmark, has developed a patented procedure, the so-called stripwound container. In several hundred or thousand layers, the special, high-strength strip material is wound around the central core of the stripwound container, into which the forming tool is pressed. The strip material has a thickness of only 0,1 mm. A STRECON strip container is usually twice as strong as normal compression rings, because the strip stock remains fully elastic up to 2000 MPa.

STRECON has developed a hydraulic press unit for tool assembly, die setting, and disassembly, which is currently available with a press force of 500 tonnes. As with the STRECON containers, the press frame is stripwound and ensures an effective compression of the steel frame. Even at maximum press load, the frame is designed to remain in a fully compressive state.

In cooperation with schwer + kopka, STRECON now offers a monitoring system ex works that measures and monitors the force vs. travel signals generated when tools are pressed into the stripwound container. The monitoring system ensures that tools are always pressed in with the correct force and are pushed into the reinforcement up to the prescribed end point.
